Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis engaged!

Actress Olivia Wilde and Saturday Night Live funnyman Jason Sudeikis have announced their engagement. Jason popped the question to Olivia over the holidays.

Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis

The couple, who have been dating since 2011 and living together since last year, haven’t said anything about their wedding plans yet, though it will no doubt be a great celebrity wedding to watch. Both Olivia and Jason are becoming big stars, with each having two movies coming out this year.

We don’t know what they’re planning, but if they’re like most newly engaged couples, they’re enjoying sharing the news with their friends and family. The couple frequently travel, both for work and pleasure, so they might even be scoping out wedding locations, too.

For most brides, attending a bridal show can be a great way to get a lot of planning done quickly. We’d love to see Olivia and Jason at one of our bridal shows. If you want to attend one, get in touch with more information about our next show!

Olympic figure skater Michelle marries

Two-time US Olympic figure skater medal winner Michelle Kwan married her Coast Guard fiance in Rhode Island this weekend. Lt. Clay Pell and Michelle tied the knot at the 200 year old First Unitarian Church in Providence where they had invited 250 guests.

Kwan, who was in tears while walking down the aisle, wore an ivory, strapless Vera Wang wedding dress with scalloped hemline. The designer has made many of the skater’s dresses in the past.

Her husband, aged 31, is a director for strategic planning on the National Security staff at the White House and a Lieutenant in the US Coast Guard (whose full dress uniform he wore for the ceremony).

Kwan, 32, has won more ice skating medals for America than anyone in history. Her accolades include a silver medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics, and a bronze at the 2002 Winter Games.

How to chill at the prospect of your forthcoming nuptials

There’s no getting away from it, planning a wedding can be stressful for the happy couple-to-be. There’s just so much to organize in terms of venue, catering, dress, the honeymoon etc – and that’s before you’ve decided who will/won’t be on the receiving end of an invitation.

What’s important though is that you don’t let it come between you two and take away from what will be one of the most important days in your lives together. Here’s some tips to bear in mind to make sure that doesn’t happen:

Negotiate. Discussions and differences of opinion don’t have to spark an argument. Instead see how your partner reacts to how you put across your points. If it’s not in a good way then learn how to debate with each other

Take time out. Learn how to unwind together. Pencil in time when any discussion about the wedding is banned. This is just about the two of you doing your thing and hanging out together without any outside niggles or interference.

Get a Wonderful Wedding Cake

When it comes to your wedding day, the cake maybe isn’t the most time-consuming item to sort out – but it’s certainly important to the extent that you want to get it absolutely right.

So how do you go about ensuring your cake – set to appear in hundreds of wedding day photos of your big day – is absolutely right for you?

Checklist for Your Wedding Cake

  • Make a scrap book of photographs of cakes you admire and keep referring to them to see which cake you like best. Try and picture this with your chosen color scheme and theme
  • If all of the above work, then it’s time to alert the individual who is preparing the cake for you. Try and give them as much notice as possible (after all, if they’re good they are going to be pretty booked up anyhow)
  • Don’t just stick to traditional cake flavors. You really can have any flavor you like, you know. It’s your big day. Cinammon, lemon, mint – they’re all there for the taking!

How To Choose a Wedding Caterer

With the ring of the New Year comes new engagements..and bridal shows. One of the great things about a wedding show is that you can meet a lot of vendors all at once. It can be especially helpful when it comes to picking out your wedding food. Both your menu and your cake will be big decisions, so you’ll want to try a few before you commit.

Most of the time, cake and food vendors will have samples on hand, or be able to book a meeting with you where you can taste what they produce. It’s best to go in with some idea of what you want, but you can also rely on their expertise.

The most important thing for both your menu and your cake is to go for something you like. There might be a few dietary restrictions you’ll need to cater to, but the bulk of the menu should be things you’re looking forward to eating. If either bride or groom has any dietary restrictions, feel free to apply these to the whole menu. After all, it’s your day!
